Quickstart
This guide walks through the first actions most teams take after getting access to AccessLedger.
Sign In or Create An Account
- Open your AccessLedger URL.
- If your organization already has an account, sign in with your email and password.
- If you are creating a new organization, use New here? Create an account on the login page.
- If you forgot your password, use Forgot your password? to request a reset link.
- After signup, verify your email from the verification message. If needed, use Resend verification email from the dashboard banner.
If you do not have login credentials for an existing organization, contact your organization's AccessLedger admin.
Add Your First Credential
- Go to Credentials.
- Click + Add Credential.
- Add at least one credential your team may need for emergency access:
- A clear name (for example,
Production Database Break-Glass) - The system or service it applies to
- Where the secret is stored (vault/safe/location)
- A risk level
- An optional rotation interval
See Credentials.
Request Emergency Access
- Go to Requests.
- Click New Request.
- Select a credential.
- Enter a reason and (optionally) an incident reference.
See Access Requests.
Approve (If You Are An Approver/Admin)
If you have the Approver role (or you are an Admin), you can approve or deny requests.
- Open the request detail page.
- Choose an Access Duration (1, 4, or 24 hours).
- Click Approve or Deny.
Close The Request With Evidence
After the emergency work is done, close the request:
- Open the approved request.
- Enter What did you do? (post-use notes).
- Optionally mark Credential rotated after use.
- Click Close Request.
This is the part that turns "we handled an incident" into audit-ready evidence.
Verify Auditability
- Go to Audit Log.
- Filter by user, credential, event type, and date range.
- Export CSV (admin/auditor) if you need an external report.
See Audit Log.
